Siofor

Metformine is used to treat type 2 diabetes called non insulin-dependent diabetes or adult-onset diabetes(especially in people with obesity)

Metformin should not be taken in the following conditions:

• Increased sensitivity or allergy to metformin or other compounds used to make metformin tablets
• Diabetes type 1 called insulin dependent diabetes
• Precomatose and comatose state
• Severe kidney(kidney failure) and liver diseases
• Severe cardiovascular diseases including congestive heart failure , heart attack, stroke
• Severe infections
• Severe lung diseases including respiratory failure
• Metabolic or diabetic ketoacidosis
• Catabolic conditions
• Serious water deprivation
• Are going to have an x-ray procedure with an injection contrast agents.
• Are going to have surgery.
• Pregnancy
• Breastfeeding

• Avoid alcohol drinking while taking Metformin

• Metformin increases hypoglycemic effect of other diabetes medications(insulins, sulphonyl urea therapy)
• Metformin may interact with the following medications:
• Certain decongestants, such as phenylephrine
• Calcium channel blockers
• Corticosteroids
• Diuretics
• Oral contraceptives
• Estrogens
• Phenothiazine medications
• Thyroid medications
• Niacin, Isoniasid, Cimetidine, Phenythoin
